King Street and Surrounding (Downtown Charleston)
Downtown Charleston has a fantastic mix of restaurants, open market shops, local shops, modern national chains, and high-end boutiques. You can pretty much start anywhere on the peninsula and enjoy our historic city. Another option is hop on a house drawn carriage and get an overview of the city first. Find out for yourself why we consistently get rated both the best place to live and the friendliest city.
Mt. Pleasant Town Centre
This is an upscale outdoor shopping center that has over 65 national and local stores, including a 16-screen movie theater. The best part is it is directly across the IOP connector and only about a five-minute drive from the island.
Night Life
There is no shortage of nightlife on the islands! Starting on Sullivan’s Island, you will almost certainly find a crowd in any of the local bar basically any night of the week. Poe’s is a landmark and usually fills up pretty quickly, as does Mex 1, Home Team, and Dunleavy’s. On IOP, the Windjammer usually has something going on including local bands, volleyball tournaments out back, and of course the Bikini Bash every Sunday in the summer. Also, be sure to check out the Marina (located at the end of 41st Ave). There is live music several nights a week and an outdoor bar with activities for the whole family.
Venturing Downtown Charleston, you will find and abundance of things to do. Night life scenes vary from local college students hangouts to high-end bars and restaurants and everything in between. Enjoy!
